Hi: I own a Dell XPS M1710 which has an "Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)" according to lspci, and I am using the snd-hda-intel module to control it. I have installed alsa and everything is working fine except for the subwoofer that does not sound at all. I googled a lot but I did not find anything useful. The only thing I found that worked for a couple of people was adding "options snd-hda-intel model=ref", to my /etc/modprobe.conf. I did it but nothing changed. This was supposed to make a new volume control (called "LFE") to be shown in alsamixer, and that was supposed to let me control the subwoofer volume, but nothing happened. I also tried with "option=6stack", "option=full", "option=3stack" but none of them made any difference. I am running Archlinux and my "uname -a" output is: ============ Linux hades 2.6.22-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Aug 12 12:15:58 CEST 2007 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T7200 @ 2.00GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux ============ My "lsmod | grep snd" output is: ============ snd_usb_audio 74848 0 snd_usb_lib 14592 1 snd_usb_audio snd_rawmidi 19232 1 snd_usb_lib snd_hwdep 7300 1 snd_usb_audio snd_seq_oss 29312 0 snd_seq_midi_event 6528 1 snd_seq_oss snd_seq 46672 4 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi_event snd_seq_device 6924 3 snd_rawmidi,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq snd_hda_intel 17048 1 snd_hda_codec 235800 2 hsfhda,snd_hda_intel snd_pcm_oss 38560 0 snd_pcm 69124 4 snd_usb_audio,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_pcm_oss snd_timer 19204 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm snd_page_alloc 7816 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm snd_mixer_oss 14592 1 snd_pcm_oss snd 44644 14 snd_usb_audio,snd_rawmidi,snd_hwdep,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer,snd_mixer_oss soundcore 6496 1 snd usbcore 112264 9 uvcvideo,snd_usb_audio,snd_usb_lib,usbhid,hci_usb,hsfosspec,ehci_hcd,uhci_hcd ============ My "amixer" output: ============ Simple mixer control 'Master',0 Capabilities: pvolume pswitch Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right Limits: Playback 0 - 31 Mono: Front Left: Playback 3 [10%] [-42.00dB] [on] Front Right: Playback 3 [10%] [-42.00dB] [on] Simple mixer control 'PCM',0 Capabilities: pvolume Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right Limits: Playback 0 - 255 Mono: Front Left: Playback 255 [100%] [0.00dB] Front Right: Playback 255 [100%] [0.00dB] Simple mixer control 'LFE',0 Capabilities: pvolume pvolume-joined pswitch pswitch-joined Playback channels: Mono Limits: Playback 0 - 31 Mono: Playback 31 [100%] [0.00dB] [off] Simple mixer control 'IEC958',0 Capabilities: pswitch pswitch-joined cswitch cswitch-joined Playback channels: Mono Capture channels: Mono Mono: Playback [off] Capture [off] Simple mixer control 'Capture',0 Capabilities: cvolume cswitch Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right Limits: Capture 0 - 15 Front Left: Capture 9 [60%] [13.50dB] [on] Front Right: Capture 9 [60%] [13.50dB] [on] Simple mixer control 'Capture Mux',0 Capabilities: volume Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right Capture channels: Front Left - Front Right Limits: 0 - 4 Front Left: 4 [100%] [40.00dB] Front Right: 4 [100%] [40.00dB] Simple mixer control 'Input Source',0 Capabilities: enum Items: 'Mic' 'Front Mic' 'Line' Item0: 'Mic' ============ I also tried installing alsa from source from the alsa-project website tarballs, but, again, nothing happened.
