I'm having a nightmare getting ac3 pass through to work. I had this problem originally with Fedora 4, then I upgraded (thinking it was down to old drivers etc) to Fedora 7 and I'm still getting the very same problem. I'm using xine, with pass through enabled. When I play a DVD, I just get helicopter noise coming from my av amp. It seems to be just handling it as raw stereo pcm. I get a similar effect when using VLC too, albeit as much quieter and less regular blips. If I chose stereo output from either amp, I get perfect sound across the spdif into my av amp. On the console with xine --verbose I get these errors a lot:- audio_decoder: error, unknown buffer type: 02000000 audio_decoder: error, unknown buffer type: 04000000 audio_decoder: error, unknown buffer type: 01060000 fixing sound card drift by -2810 pts However I get these also, when set to stereo out and it sounds fine... My card is an Audigy 4 value (SB0610). This has a three devices:- card 0: Audigy2 [Audigy 4 [SB0610]], device 0: emu10k1 [ADC Capture/Standard PCM Playback] card 0: Audigy2 [Audigy 4 [SB0610]], device 2: emu10k1 efx [Multichannel Capture/PT Playback] card 0: Audigy2 [Audigy 4 [SB0610]], device 3: emu10k1 [Multichannel Playback] I've tried using these other devices in VLC, but I just get an error saying their inaccessible/in use. My amp is a Sherwood Newcastle R-756, this handles Dolby Digital and DTS fine from my Playstation 2 over optical. This is really pissing me off now, so if anyone can lend any light on the matter, I would greatly appreciate it.
