snd-usb-audio is _not_ needed for the Tascam US-122

If /proc/asound/cards contains the US-122, could he/she try:

cat /dev/urandom | aplay -Dhw:1,0 -f cd

(careful on the volume!) If this produces white noise out of the
headphone/output jacks, then a modified .asoundrc can make the Tascam
the default sound card.

Tascam usb soundcards can be a bit awkward to set up, due to the
required firmware loading (there are 2 separate firmwares required),
so it always needs a little bit of fiddling. That said, I also have a
Tascam US-122, and it works on Debian Etch/Ubuntu Edgy/Ubuntu Fiesty.
What distro is he/she using? If it's Debian/Ubuntu, I can provide some
instructions. Otherwise, check out:

http://www.bxlug.be/articles/306 (en francais!)
http://langerland.de/linux/usx2y/index.html

It looks like they have the card up-and-running, however (as it's
listed in /proc/asound/cards). It might just be that they're not
"using" it yet... (hence the "cat/dev/urandom" line above to test...)

Let me know how you get on. HTH, Jaime
