Hi I am struggling (and failing) to get sound to work on Ubuntu Edgy 6.10 which has a 2.6.17-10 kernel and alsa 1.0.12rc1. The device is recognised, the driver loaded and everything appears to be working, except that I'm only getting a very, very quiet sound out of it. The Speakers & Amp are fine with another sound card. I've played with all the settings in alsamixer, and have to turn both Master & PCM volumes to 100% and put ear to speaker to hear anything at all - it's unusable. After googling for a week, I can't find anybody who has got sound working under Linux with this motherboard - but they may just be happily listening to sounds for all I know! lspci reports the device as:- 00:11.5 Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller (rev 70) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Unknown device 81b9 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 209 I/O ports at d400 [size=256] Capabilities: <access denied> I've tried updating to the latest alsa drivers following the instructions here:- http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php?company=VIA&card=VIA+southbridge+AC97+audio.&chip=VIA82C686%2C+VIA8233%2C+VIA8233A%2C+VIA8235%2C+VIA8237&module=via82xx but it then seems not to load the driver and I get no sound at all. I'd be really grateful for any help, so thanks in advance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
