Do I only need to compile the driver or do I also need the Alsa Library, Lib-plugins, Utilities, Tools and Firmware?

It would indeed be possible to convert stereo data to mono, but this
wouldn't help you because this device doesn't support mono at all.

You could try to compile the latest driver in
< ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/testing/> yourself.
