relocation error - version ALSA_0.9 not defined...

Hi @ you all who read this,
i'm afraid to say but i'm another one of those poor and lost
help-seeking alsa-newbees. Hopefully someone will provide some help
nevertheless.

I changed from 4front-oss (which worked perfectly, but is closed-source
sadly) to alsa. At the moment i'm trying to use the in-kernel alsa
drivers for my two "cards", intel8x0 and cmipci (nforce2-audio and
zoltrix nightingale w. optical out). The devices get detected:

#ALSA device list:
# #0: C-Media PCI CMI8738-MC6 (model 55) at 0x9000, irq 7
# #1: NVidia nForce2 with ALC650F at 0xef080000, irq 3

But everytime i try to change a mixer setting, i get:

#root:/home/xxx>amixer set Master 100
#Simple mixer control 'Master',0
# Capabilities: pvolume
# Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right
# Limits: Playback 0 - 31
#amixer: relocation error: amixer: symbol #
#snd_mixer_selem_get_playback_dB, version ALSA_0.9 not defined in file
#libasound.so.2 with link time reference

(btw, same as user)
I got no idea what to do, i've tried any solution i could find with no
success. I deleted the modules, checked the kernel-version, tried using
modules instead of built-in, tried to use the latest stable version and
cvs-version too, i used recent vanilla, ck and even git-kernels, all the
same.

Both solutions are a no-go: using modules gives me lots of unresolved
symbols when modprobing them. Using kernel-alsa gives me the relocation
error described above.

Specs: x86, Athlon XP 2400+

If you need anything else to know, please post.

TIA
stahlsau
