half speed playback mp3 etc

Hi I have asked on this list before, without any positive feedback.:(
I have major neuro-surgery next week and need this computer to be able
to payback mp3 and dvd films .
and I'm not going to able to debug the system for weeks afterwards.

OS mandriva 2007 official release.
DM = Gnome 2.16
Audio apps effected amarok, lindvd, xine, xmms, all devices using ALSA
Sound card M-audio delta 66 ( envy24 chip set)
Any audio that is digitised, ie streamed, is clocked back at half the
intended clock rate
( it plays at half speed , slow)
I suspect its an ALSA bug as I seen the same on Suse 10.1, and from bug
reports its effecting the previous ubuntu release.
I think gnome can be ruled out as I've sen it on gnome 2.14.
On a virgin install of MDV2007 it's clear for a while, play back at
normal speed, and after about a week, anything mps, ogg
etc is clocked at half speed.

Alsa version =
#define SND_LIB_VERSION_STR     "1.0.12"
 From googling this problem has been around for a long time, the last
time this occurred I reloaded the whole system.
This time I don't have the time to do that,
Any chance of some help with this one ????

TIA
Richard
