Then you shouldn't need to get a 5.1 or 7.1 device.

However, it's very hard to find stereo USB devices because most USB
audio devices are designed as a upgrade over a laptop's sound system.

What do you want to do with it?  If you want to seriously do recording,
you're better of with a stereo device like the UA-1EX instead of a cheap
5.1 device from Creative.
