I've just instaled an audigy SE 7.1, which uses the ca0106 module. I've upgraded alsa to 1.0.13rc3. But I have no sound. I'm using analogue

The module is loaded. cat /proc/asound/pcm gives me the follwowing

00-03: ca0106 : CA0106 : playback 1 : capture 1
00-02: ca0106 : CA0106 : playback 1 : capture 1
00-01: ca0106 : CA0106 : playback 1 : capture 1
00-00: ca0106 : CA0106 : playback 1 : capture 1

alsamixer works as expected, but no sound. the spdif is muted (off) and all the various analogue output sliders are set to about 75%.

aplay just sits and does nothing. speaker-test gives the following error

speaker-test -c2 -twav -Dplug:front

speaker-test 1.0.13rc3

Playback device is plug:front

Thanks for any assistance

Update...

I have a feed from a cable box into the line in of my audigy soundcard (I run mythtv). using alsamixer I can turn up the capture feedback and listen to the sound into the card. I can turn the capture on and off by changing the input from mic to line etc again in alsamixer.

I can change the volume of the sounds by varying the volume sliders on alsamixer for the appropriate control, and muting the digital on and off siwtched the capture off and on.

This proves to me that I can control the card. what puzzles me is why no application, including aplay, and speaker-test will output any sound

Still cannot get anything out from any app though, be it speaker-test, or anything else
