bug in via audio ?

Recently, the audio on my system stopped working, that is, it is fine
with 2.6.16 (vanilla), but with 2.6.17 (ubuntu) or 2.6.18 (vanilla) the
audio hangs, repeatedly playing the same sample until it passes to the
next sample, which is then repeated many times, and so on.

I'm guessing that the problem is related to the via82xx driver, but I'm
not sure.
