Hi! I use an external Creative SoundBlaster Extigy as second sound card on Ubuntu Dapper Drake. For more than one and a half year now I have a problem with the sound card - even though I changed the hole configuration of my system several times. In general, the sound card workes fine - but in the beginning of every sound there is a cracking noise. Sometimes it's louder, sometimes it's more quiet. The sound in general is good, there's just that noise in the beginning... Meanwhile I'm really interested in the reason why there's that noise in the beginning of each sound. I have a HP Compaq Business Notebook nx7000 and I wanted to see, if there is the same noise on another nx7000 (my friend has the same notebook) running Ubuntu - the answer is yes. I had the same problem with Ubuntu Hoary Hedgehog and Breezy Badger. I also tested the soundcard several times with Windows - and there's no strange noise in the beginning of every sound. I'm a newbie, I don't know what the problem could be. Maybe it has something to do with the voltage of the USB port? Even if I turn down the volume to 5%, so that I can't hear no sound at all, there is the noise in the beginning (as loud as always). If it would help I could record that noise with my mobile. I hope someone can help me. Thanks! Regards, Stefan. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
